Whitefoot Clinic Emergency Call Out Protocol

Details availabliity and utilization of Dr. Mike Figurski's response to emergencies at Ski Patrol.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
To improve patient care, and provide patients with details of all treatment options available at Big White during the ski season.

AVAILABILITY
Dr. Figurski will be available by cell phone (number above phone at Ski Patrol) for call ins to the Ski Patrol Hut.  This service will be available from 10AM to 6PM daily until the end of the season.   From 12-6PM Dr. Figurski is in Clinic and may be delayed in response to Ski Patrol.  This service is free to anyone with valid Canadian Health Insurance (others will be charged $200 plus medications).

NOTE TO SKI PATROL;  PLEASE DO NOT SEND PATIENTS WITH ACUTE CONDITIONS TO BE SEEN AT THE WHITEFOOT CLINIC WITHOUT CONFIRMING SPACE ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS WITH DR. FIGURSKI OR HIS RECEPTIONIST (765-0544).  THE CLINIC IS NOT AN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AND DO NOT HAVE THE FACILITIES TO TREAT EMERGENCIES*. PATIENTS WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT REQUIRING ACUTE CARE CANNOT BE ACCOMODATED IF CLINIC IS BUSY, AND THEY WILL BE SHOWN A COPY OF THIS LETTER TO EXPLAIN OUR POSITION.
(* IT WILL ALSO BE FAR MORE CONVENIENT FOR PATIENT ALREADY TAKEN TO SKI PATROL (I.E. FOR DOCUMENTATION) TO BE SEEN THERE RATHER THAN TRYING TO FIND THEIR WAY TO OUR CLINIC. )

UTILIZATION;    IN ORDER TO JUSTIFY THIS AVAILABILITY, STATS HAVE BEEN COMPILED FROM THE START OF THE THE 2007-2008 SEASON.   IT IS EXPECTED THAT ALL TRIPS TO TOWN VIA AMBULANCE BE DISCUSSED WITH DR. FIGURSKI, AS MANY TRIPS CAN BE AVOIDED (SAVING PATIENT FROM BOTH COST AND RISK OF UNNECESSARY TRANSPORT), AND PATIENTS CAN BE PROPERLY PREPARED (PAIN CONTROL AND STABILIZATION) FOR TRANSPORT.

Dec. 2007 = 1
Jan. 2008 = 1
